This February, Reign Ministries will be partnering with The Stony Brook School to bring the message of hope and life in Christ to the Albanian people. Working out of Vlorë, a scenic seaside city in southern Albania, you’ll have a variety of creative and unique opportunities to share the Gospel in a practical and life-giving way. We will be partnering with local church planters to provide English tutoring and cultural exchange programs to students coming from low-income families. Picture yourself learning new Albanian children’s songs and stories complete with actions. No you probably won’t understand them. No you probably won’t mind. Then you get the chance to teach them some songs and stories back, picking a classic like “Pharaoh Pharaoh” or "Jonah and the Whale," also discussing the rich meaning behind these songs and stories. And just like that, you are sharing the gospel with a curious young mind, eager to know more.
Albania is largely comprised of Muslim, Catholics, Evangelicals, and agnostics. And yet with so many religions present in this small country, the role of religion has really just become a secondary thing in Albanian life and culture; few are very strong in their faith, regardless of what that faith is in. The message you’ll bring will be new and different to the Albanians who hear it. The idea of surrendering your entire life, living fully in obedience and worship to the one living God, may not always be easy to hear or to communicate. But it is powerful. It can change lives and bring hope to those who are truly lost. Has Christ made a difference in your life? Then you have something very special to offer the Albanian people. Now’s your chance!
Many details will take time to work out as we draw closer to the trip, but with open mind and willing spirits, the opportunities are endless.
Much of our food we will cook ourselves. Keeping it simple and easy for breakfast and lunch, but seeing what the Balkan and Mediterranean cuisine has to offer for dinner. Vegetables and herbs, onions, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, and onions can be found in the majority of dishes. Lamb, pork, and chicken are the norm, and cap it all off with some cannoli for dessert, washed down with some mountain tea. Like to experiment? Then a world of new food discoveries await you.
While in Vlorë, you and the team will be staying in hostels and/or rented-out apartments. Hostels resemble average American hotel rooms, minus the cheesy amenities, and with several sets of bunk beds per room. Just a short walk from the church, our ministry sites, and the Adriatic Sea, we think you’re going to like it. But bring your sleeping bag, because this is no luxury vacation, it’s an adventure.
This team is for The Stony Brook School students, grades 7-12, ages 12-18. If you like to travel, experience new things, and have a desire to grow in your faith and your ability to share the gospel message to others, then this a great opportunity for you. You don’t have to be a professional evangelist, or a flawless Christian. This will be a chance to practice talking about your faith with other people, building new relationships, and gaining some new ministry skills. God calls us all to evangelism, though it can be intimidating and scary. We believe that with some practice and some help, you may see the thrill and rewards that comes with stepping out and sharing your faith with someone who needs to hear it. No need to wait around anymore for the perfect opportunity. This is it!
While fundraising can be a daunting task and the idea of asking people to help you cover the cost of this trip might be intimidating to you, we believe that there are many people out there who know you and would love the chance to invest into something so worthwhile. It is an amazing experience to see God provide for an opportunity like this through the people in your life. We can help you figure out how to get the word out and show people you are ready to serve God in Albania. We are happy to coach you through the process and hope that you don’t hesitate to take us up on the offer.
