Our goal is to share Christ by establishing relationships built on compassion and meeting the needs of the community whether that is by teaching English to students of all ages, hosting block parties, working in community kitchens, or loving on vulnerable children in an orphanage. Additionally, in Arequipa there are 8 missionary families serving a city of 1 million. That is a big job and burnout can be very real. We will come alongside of our brothers and sisters in Christ by caring for them and their children. We may only be in Peru for a few short weeks, but we want to see them thriving in their ministry for many years to come.

Royal Servants takes the safety and health of each participant seriously. We go to great lengths to ensure that participants remain healthy and safe throughout the trip. Therefore, no participant is allowed to be alone in any city; Royal Servants always travel in groups of three or more, and when possible, with either a male or Summer Staff in each group. The Trip Leaders also continually monitor conditions within the host country both before and during the trip. If a situation arises that threatens the security of the team, either politically or from environmental conditions, the team will be moved to a stable location.

Peru is a large country with varying regions to explore: from the Pacific coastline to the imposing Andes mountain range; and nearly 60% of the country is tropical rainforest. From one of the world's deepest canyons to the snow capped peaks of the nearby volcanos, there are some exciting places to explore. On top of that you’ll get to meet lots of interesting people, and odds of meeting an alpaca are greater than almost anywhere else in the world!

Peruvian culture is a lively mix of Hispanic and native traditions woven into every aspect of their lives, in particular their art. Music and dance are a vital part of keeping their traditions alive and their dress reflects a vibrant and celebratory outlook on life. So it may not surprise you to learn that the people of Peru loooove to par-tay. They also deeply value family and hospitality; you will be welcomed with open arms.

We believe in hands-on discipleship. You will be trained how to talk to someone about the Gospel and how to share your personal testimony of faith. Additionally, we prioritize daily time in the Bible, regular prayer and worship, and guided Scripture memorization. On top of all of that, you’ll be living in basic conditions on a different continent - that is a challenge that takes some faith in God! If you are willing to give up your comfort zone this summer, we guarantee you will see yourself grow as a follower of Jesus.

You! Especially if you like fresh coffee, want to practice your Spanish, or have a heart for Latin America. Or if you like to party. No, really, Peruvians are famous for their parties! Don’t be surprised to hear fireworks going off because someone got a work promotion. Do you like being a part of something new? This will be Royal Servants' first time ever in Peru, and our first time back to South America in twenty years!

Our team will be cooking most of our own meals where we lodge, with several opportunities for dinner out. The four traditional staples of Peruvian cuisine are corn, potatoes, quinoa, and beans, but you'd also be remiss to not try their most beloved dish: ceviche! As for accommodations, the house in which you will be staying in Arequipa has a beautiful Andean view and is a short walk from the heart of the city.

This is where we take a step back from ministry and reflect on what we have seen God do in and through us. It is an intentional time of rest and reflection before heading home. Our team will be staying in the capital city of Lima which will provide ample opportunities to visit the beach, try a variety of Peruvian cuisine, and (let’s be honest) purchase that alpaca sweater that you’ll have had your eye on. Debriefing is a celebration of our experiences together, closure to the summer, and a jumping off point for you to return home ready to serve the Kingdom of God in your hometown.

In Arequipa we will be working with two Royal Servants alumni, Josh and Nicole, who are passionate Jesus followers, family lovers, justice fighters, and have been missionaries to Peru for over five years. We are excited for this new partnership because their heart is to see a day when all Peruvian children can be cared for in loving, secure families.
